TE Cup 2016: Invisible Wings’ Blast From The Past
The last time Invisible Wings beat Beyond Infinity in the finals of a tournament (NeckBREAK and Team Elunes back then) was in the Taiwan Excellence Cup Finals in 2015. Exactly a year later, Invisible Wings shook of their demons (a lot of em’) as they beat Beyond Infinity 2-1 in the finals of the Taiwan Excellence Cup 2016 organized by Nodwin Gaming! IW took home the first place prize of Rs. 2,00,000 while BI took home Rs. 80,000 from the Rs. 5,00,000 prizepool. The finals took place on Saturday, the 17th of September.
Just a few days ago news broke out that Beyond Infinity and Invisible Wings will be merging to form a sort of all star Indian team that will go by the name of Entity Esports. But before they set off on their journey, the teams had some unfinished business as they had already qualified for the LAN finals of the TE Cup and the Dew Arena with their earlier rosters.
BI, who will be parting ways with Zeddisbug and Battosai were pipped to be the favorites after a close win over IW at the finals of the ESL India Premiership LAN in Pune. But IW, who will be dropping long time player Pandemic and Ingenius Archmage, had other plans!
Here’s how the games unfolded:
IW took the first game to take a 1-0 lead in the finals. BI came back with a Naga strat in game 2 to even the series at 1-1. But IW held their own and claimed the final game to seal the win and their first tournament in a long time!
The next tournament that’ll potentially see these two locking horns will be the LAN Finals of the Dew Arena. Sadly, that will be the last one before the teams merge and put an end to a very long rivalry that has entertained the Indian DotA 2 community with some superb games.
If these two teams do meet each other in the Dew Arena LAN finals, I just hope it goes down to the wire and we get to see a series of games that will be worthy of the final games between two great teams: Beyond Infinity and Invisible Wings..
